The Over Khumbu expedition was born from the hope that a small group of paragliding enthusiasts could finally share their passion for flight with inquisitive locals who inhabit the Khumbu region of Nepal. More specifically, the expedition participants wanted to give back to the Khumbu Sherpas who have given so much to visiting Westerners over the past 50 years. The expedition was initially inspired by Dick Jackson, an IFMGA mountain guide and owner of a paragliding school in Aspen, Colorado. To transform his idea into a reality, Dick assembled a group of talented paraglider pilots and accomplished alpinists who would also share their knowledge and love of flight with Khumbu locals. In the process of sharing their knowledge, the Over Khumbu expedition participants hoped to gain a deeper understanding of the Sherpani people and their unique way of life.  With Marmot's help, the dream came alive in the Fall of 2003. "I hadn't been back since the runway had been paved... one of the things I love about the Khumbu is its symmetry, all earth and sky with the Sherpa people living in the balance.
